OUR TEAM
Dr. Marlene E. Poole
Education Adviser / Trustee
Marlene brings to the board a unique combination of professional educational leadership and a deep, generational commitment to The Gambian Children’s Fund’s work.
Currently serving as the Mathematics Subject Lead at a SEND school, Marlene has dedicated her career to developing inclusive and effective learning strategies for all students. This professional expertise is directly applicable to supporting the school that her late Aunt Joyce, her mother figure, founded over two decades ago. That personal connection is the driving force behind her commitment to the charity’s mission.
With an academic background that includes a PhD in Physical Electronics and Materials Science, a BEng in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and a PGCE in Mathematics, Marlene offers a valuable blend of analytical rigour, strategic thinking, and a practical understanding of educational challenges. She is passionate about honouring the vision of her aunt and about improving the life chances of Gambian children by contributing to the charity’s management, sustainably, and continued transformation of lives through education.
Marlene looks forward to contributing to the next chapter of the school’s story and ensure its success for generations to come.
