New Classrooms

The Gambian Children’s Fund has proudly supported the construction of four new classrooms at the school in Banjul, marking a major step forward in improving education for local children. Until recently, lessons were often held in cramped, makeshift spaces that offered little protection from the heat or rain. The new buildings provide bright, well-ventilated rooms where students can focus, learn, and feel proud of their environment.

Each classroom has been designed with both comfort and practicality in mind. Large windows allow for natural light and airflow, while durable materials ensure the structures can withstand the Gambian climate. The classrooms are furnished with new desks, chalkboards, and storage, creating a clean and inspiring setting for teachers and pupils alike. For the first time, students no longer have to share desks or sit on the floor during lessons.

The project was made possible thanks to the generosity of donors and supporters in the UK and beyond. Funds raised by the Gambian Children’s Fund covered construction costs, furniture, and essential learning materials. Local builders and craftspeople were employed throughout the process, ensuring that the investment directly benefited the surrounding community and helped build valuable skills in sustainable construction.

Teachers have already noticed a significant difference. With more space and better facilities, classes are calmer and easier to manage, and students are showing improved concentration and attendance. Parents, too, have expressed gratitude and pride in seeing their children study in a safe, modern environment — something that once felt out of reach for many families in the area.

The new classrooms are more than just buildings; they represent hope and opportunity for the next generation. By creating a better place to learn, the Gambian Children’s Fund is helping to unlock every child’s potential and lay the foundations for a brighter future. The charity plans to continue improving facilities at the school, ensuring that every child in Banjul has access to the education they deserve.
